ONLINE RETAILERS NEED TO REGISTER FOR FSSAI TOO
All the e-commerce dealing in food need to get registered with the food regulator FSSAI in order to continue selling their product.
The authority of FSSAI directed that the online retailers dealing with the sale of food products need to get themselves registered under the FOOD AND SAFETY ACT 2006.
Chairman Ashish Bahuguna said “These e-commerce sites deal with one or other form of food business, and food business falls under FSSAI so they need to get themselves registered”
Any online retailer selling food products without the FSSAI license will be taken under the law of FSSAI protection and can legally be punished.
A meeting was also held between all the online retailers and FSSAI in order to inform them about the license and the importance.
Very soon food specific startups Food panda India, Zomato, Swiggy, and other commerce giants will also have to get themselves registered for the FSSAI license.
By implementing FSSAI license even the e-commerce can assure their customers about the good food products and safe ingredients present in the food.
Likewise sites like yellow pages, just dial etc who provide information to us about the vendors and food shops and only list vendors having the FSSAI license.
FSSAI regulations also provide for both centralized registrations of large retailers and wholesalers exceeding turnover Rs. 20 - 30 crore. Further, they need to compliance with the following:
-Packing and labeling of various foods items with the FSSAI license number
-Follow standards of quality prescribed
-Maintenance of each and every record.
Any retailer who fails to do so and does not obtain the FSSAI license will have to bare a fine up to rs.5 lakh and an imprisonment of 6 months.
